Sahalee Country Club

The history of Sahalee Country Club is deeply intertwined with the rich golfing heritage of the greater Seattle area. It all began in 1965 when members of Inglewood Country Club and Broadmoor Golf Club decided that the region needed another championship golf course.

Par Golf, Inc. was formed when these two groups merged to develop a course of national caliber. The search for the perfect location led them to the Sammamish Plateau east of Redmond, WA. Sahalee was envisioned as a championship-caliber course capable of hosting USGA and PGA national events, and nationally recognized golf course architect Ted Robinson was chosen for the task.

Louie Schmidt, hired as Golf Course Superintendent, played a pivotal role in overseeing the construction and maintenance of the course. The name "Sahalee," which means "High Heavenly Ground" in the native Chinook language, was chosen to reflect the course's unique character and the region's heritage.

Sahalee's journey continued in 1968 when the club appointed Paul Runyan, a two-time PGA Champion and four-time Ryder Cup Team Member, as its first golf professional. Over the years, ten different Head Golf Professionals, each with impressive credentials, have served Sahalee's members.

The club's commitment to excellence extended to course renovations in the late 1990s, overseen by noted golf course architect Rees Jones. These renovations enhanced key features of the North and South courses. The East course also underwent similar improvements after hosting the 1998 PGA Championship.

The club's dedication to providing an exceptional golfing experience culminated in the construction of a new clubhouse in 2001. This 43,000 square foot facility not only offered expanded dining and locker room facilities but also celebrated the natural beauty of Sahalee, providing a fitting backdrop for golf enthusiasts.

Sahalee Country Club's legacy extends beyond its stunning golf courses. It has hosted prestigious golf tournaments, including the NEC World Golf Championship in 2002, the USGA Senior Open in 2010, and the 2016 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Its reputation as the "high heavenly ground" of Northwest golf makes it a sought-after destination for golfers and potential homebuyers alike.
