Facebook is Looking for More Space

Seattle’s South Lake Union district is already busting at the seams with major headquarters and satellite sites from Amazon, Expedia, and Facebook, but now, Facebook is looking at even more office space in the Seattle area.

According to a news article by the Puget Sound Business Journal, the social media giant Facebook is looking for an additional 300,000 to 400,000 ft.² of office space in addition to its already brand-new location at the Dexter Station building taking up 335,000 ft².

There are plenty of options around South Lake Union, even though more and more offices are being taken over by major corporations. Currently, there are over 1,600,000 ft.² of office space under construction and the 1101 Westlake building was recently completed, just down the street from Dexter Station. Many local real estate sources site that Facebook is ready to rent out 153 ft.² of that space.

Facebook has seen tremendous growth in the Seattle area over the last six years and when it moved into the Dexter Station it had about 1000 employees with room to double that capacity. Facebook's representatives say that they would definitely reach that number in the next few years. Facebook currently rents 8 of the 10 stories in the Dexter Station Building.

The developer of Dexter Station, Capstone Partners of Seattle, is planning an additional 165,000-square-foot project called Dexter North. Construction should start at the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. Facebook recently moved to Dexter Station vacating the 150,000 square-foot Denny Triangle campus. Talks are still underway on whether or not they will move employees back to this campus should they need the office space.
